Short Vowel Words – Digital CVC Practice

These are designed to be a resource students can use during distance learning or in the classroom.

The files are being shared as PowerPoint files. If you don’t have PowerPoint and would like to use them in Google Slides, you can easily convert them. You will find the directions for converting to Google Slides at the bottom of this post.

What are CVC words?

CVC words are consonant vowel consonant vowel words.

These words have a short vowel sound.

Examples of CVC words are cat, pig, red, hop and sun.

They are typically easy for children to sound out so they can be good beginning words for children learning to read.

Using these PowerPoint Activities

These activities are designed to help your children practice reading simple, three letter words.

To use these activities you will need PowerPoint. (Or, follow the directions for converting to Google Slides below.)

You will want to save each file to your computer. It might be a good idea to save an original and a copy. This will make it easier to have a fresh file for children to work from after moving the pictures around.

Children will read each word in the boxes and then click and drag the pictures to match each word.

If you want to check student work, teach them to take a screenshot to share with you.
