The words on these pages all contain a long i sound.
The letter combinations making the long I sound are igh or ie. You will also find words where the y makes a long I sound.
This set does not contain words that have a long I sound made by the magic e such as bike.
Examples of words found in this set include light, pie and cry.
Practice with Words Containing Long I Sound
These words with the long I sound can be tricky.
Children have already received practice with words containing the magic e sound. Examples of these words are hike and ride. The words contained in these new pages are different.
To help students get started, make an anchor chart for practicing words with the different letter combinations.
Write igh, ie and y at the top. (You might add in i _ e as well.)
Have students name words with the long i sound as you record them in the correct column.
About These Long I Sound Worksheets
This set contains 13 printable pages where students will work with words containing the letters igh, ie and y. Each one will have a long I sound within the word.
Students will complete words and color pictures while identifying the missing letters.
