Core Values List for Students
This core values list is designed to help students.
Provide students with a copy of this list to help them with brainstorming.

About this list
At the beginning of the school year, there are many times when students are asked to reflect on themselves.
One task last year during our Leader in Me time was for students to identify their core values. Without examples and guidance, this proved to be very abstract for some.
When students try to search on their own on-line, not all words they come up with are truly values. Because so many were struggling, I created a list of ideas to get them started.
This list ended up not only being useful for this specific activity but also when we were reading biographies. We went back to this list often as we were trying to identify the values of those we were learning about.
In my room, I printed and laminated one and then we added new words to it throughout the year.
Along with the styles you can print and laminate, I also created one that is to be printed front to back. For this one, cut it in half after printing. Students can use this as a starting point and circle the values that stand out to them.
For some, it might help to have students share why they chose the words they circled. This could help some students who are unsure what to choose.
