Vowel teams are sounds that work together to form a long vowel sound although children are able to stretch out the sound to hear both letters.
These flashcards will provide your children with practice with words containing long vowel pairs. The vowel teams included are: ai, ea, oa, ue, oi, ee, ie, oe and ui.
You will find these vowel team flashcards in four formats.
The download includes:
Begin with the cards containing the vowel team and picture on one card. Continue by saying the name of the picture and then saying the vowel team sound.
Have your child name the picture on the card. They can then identify the vowel team they hear at the beginning. You might then have your child write the letters on a whiteboard so that they are matching the letters with the sound.
Once your child has mastered this task, they can try reading the vowel team without the picture clues. You might ask them to make a list of words they know beginning with the vowel team.
These cards can also be used as a matching activity. Have your child match the vowel team letters with the picture. Extend the activity by playing a go fish style game or a memory game with these cards.
