Beginning blends are sounds that “blend” together to form a sound although children are able to stretch out the sound to hear both letters. You might also hear these letter combinations referred to as consonant clusters.
For these pages, I focused on blends for L, R and S. Each blend found in these pages has two letters.
These are good words to work on after CVC or short vowel words. Like CVC words, CVCe words have many words with pictures to accompany the word. This can be good for students needing to match meaning with the letters in order to begin reading words.
You will find a total of 20 different pages, each is provided in 2 formats.
Each page has a blend listed in the middle. Around the edges you will find pictures.
The first set has just the pictures. The second set includes the words next to the pictures.
To complete the pages, students will color the pictures that begin with the given consonant blend.
They will then write three words beginning with the consonant blend at the bottom.
If you are looking to extend these pages, you might ask your children to circle the blend in each word. For example, on the bl page, students will circle bl in the word blender.
